Water
Urban areas and localities where there are governmental administrative centres generally have access to clean running water, in contrast to rural areas where obtaining clean water is often a struggle. If there is no local bore hole, people must depend on water from lakes, rivers, streams, and springs. This water source is often unprotected from contamination.
In addition, water sources are vanishing due to intensive swamp farming and deforestration. Changes in weather patterns have also had a deleterious effect on the availability of potable water. The Archdiocese of Tororo has committed a lot of efforts in the recent past on constructing wells close to schools and villages so that children have access to good drinking water. The people living in the vicinity of the school are also able to benefit from this water source.
The current cost to establish a well is approximately $10,000. We thank those benefactors who have generously helped us to dig wells in several communities within the Archdiocese. There is a great need to bring water to our people, as water is the source of life.
