CARITAS
Founded in 1970, Caritas in Uganda is a body of the Uganda Episcopal Conference. It coordinates socio-economic development activities among the people.
In the Archdiocese of Tororo, Caritas has grown to foster development solutions by working closely with and through local partners throughout the Archdiocese in order to identify and address the root causes of poverty and injustice in the lives of the people.
Just to mention, Uganda being an agriculturally reliant country, the work of Caritas in our Archdiocese not only improves access to clean water, but also provides seed banks in case of failed crops.
In partnership with Catholic Relief Services – USA, Caritas’ awareness campaigns in the Archdiocese, provides care and treatment through a number of medical facilities to people living with the HIV/AIDS virus.
Through the micro-financing and agricultural skills promotion programs meant to help local communities, Caritas in our Archdiocese has initiated activities that include the linking of farmers to financial institutions for soft loans and organizing open markets for them to display their agricultural products as well as to learn technical advice from competent well-trained Agricultural officers.
As a diocese we are so grateful to Caritas Uganda for their good work done in collaboration with the worldwide Caritas network; namely, Caritas Internationalis, Catholic Relief Services USA, Caritas Denmark, Caritas Norway, Caritas Italy, Caritas Japan, Caritas Australia, and Caritas Netherlands-CORDAID.
